Carson Philippine Independence Day

Spent a nice sunny Saturday at the Carson Philippine Independence Day. I brought my ukulele to practice thinking it'll be a mellow day but I was wrong.

We moved a lot of rattan mostly to the youth. Glad to see youngins interested in FMA but one thing I noticed is that, not a whole lot were actually interested in learning or taking classes.

The old manong in me concluded that, mga youts wanted to just own a piece of their culture instead of actually living or learning it. Just cause you rock fat laces doesn't mean you're a b-boy. Speaking of b-boys did anyone catch Jose battling the kids behind the tent?

If you're interested learning Eskrima please contact

Master Erwin Mosqueda
Los Feliz, Torrance Area

Master Jun Onas
West Covina Area

You may have seen these guys at the event. They were at booth for most of the day.

Our apologies to folks expecting an eskrima demo from Team Olisi. We had scheduling conflicts so most our demo team had to leave early.

See you at the June 21st Tourney

Moving Real Slow Today

Hey all, had an over all great time at the MT. SAC Eskrima Invitational. Received numerous black and blues on the sides and arms, hence the lolo-like movements today.

The MT. SAC crew definitely knows how to put on a good stickfighting tournament. I especially appreciated the classic hip hop being pumped during the event. Stay tuned for videos of matches.

If you're in Carson, California this Saturday (6/7) for the Carson Philippine Independence Day Celebration, keep a look out for the Olisi table. Also we'll be participating in an Eskrima Demonstration with Master Jun (eskrimadoracademy.com) and Master Erwin (doceparesla.com)

Carson Philippine Independence Day Celebration
6/7 8am to 8pm
Veterans Park
22400 Moneta, Carson CA 90745

Don't forget Master Jun's Tourney 6/21 is right around the corner.

Tourneys Coming Up

Hey All, just wanted folks to know that their are two good eskrima tournaments coming up here in the LA area.

May 31st
MT.SAC Eskrima Invitational
Contact: 12pares@msn.com

June 21st
Eskrimador Challenge
Contact: eskrmadoracademy.com

For both tournaments, I hear they are doing different kind of events from the standard WEKAF events. The MT. SAC has a freestyle carenza round per round event. Reminds me of b-boy battle events. should be good. Eskrimador Challenge has an elite division where one can win a cash prize. Now that's different. Win a little money for swinging a stick? I like it.

See you there,
Team Olisi
